This article presents Agrosmart’s satellite image product, design to aid in plant monitoring and decision making.

If you want understand the benefits, what it is used for, and the properties of satellite images, we have another article that you can access by clicking here.

How to access the product?

The product access is always done through the product menu located in the top right of the platform.

If you are in the map it will directly open the product menu. If you are in another page of the platform you will be redirected to the map.

Observation: If you don't see this product, it is because you don’t have the product yet. Access the store via - https://www.cultivointeligente.com.br/v4/o/1/store - and buy the product. If you have acquired our product in the store or by one of our representatives and the button is still missing, contact our support through the chat icon on your screen and we will investigate the problem.

How to use the product?

By clicking on the product button and selecting the “Satellite Images” option you will be able to choose an area from your organization. It is not possible to utilize the product if you haven’t drawn or inserted an area before, so if you still haven’t done so already stop here, and read our article about area registering by clicking here, it will be quick!

Select your area, it will ask for you to choose between three filters: NDVI/Sentinel-2 (L2A), NDVI/Sentinel-2 (L1C) or RGB/Sentinel-2.

The RGB filter displays the image as the human eye sees it.

The NDVI filters are generated via mathematical equations that quantify the chlorophyll activity or, simply, the plant photosynthetic activity. We have an article that explains in more detail what is NDVI, just click here to better understand how it can help your monitoring.

The difference between NDVI filters is that the L2A has a more advanced atmospheric correction (Sen2Cor) than L1C so that the L2A images have better quality. However, since L2A became available in Brazil only in December 2018, if you want older images you have to use L1C.

Chose whichever filter you like. Now is necessary to define two things: the period to search for the images and the cloud filter.

Use the cloud filter to define a limit for the amount of clouds that are present in the images and select the period for the image search.

Important: the cloud filter and the percentage of clouds shown in the image are related to the entire satellite picture (which spans for a few dozens of kilometers square). Therefore, especially if you have a small area, it is possible that even with a high percentage of clouds your area can have clear or cloudy skies.

In Brazil, the satellite temporal resolution is 5 days, in other words, if you set your filter for 100% of clouds you will have an image every 5 days during the defined period.
